The streaming service is partnering with Disney-owned Disney-ABC Television Studios and Disney-Marvel Studios to bring the worlds of animated films to its premium-streaming platform.
Hulu Plus will offer the animated features from Disney, Marvel and Pixar in a new collection that is being dubbed “Hollywood Movies in the House.”
That includes live-action films that are available for free in Hulu Plus, Disney-produced shows like “Pixar Cars,” “The Lion King” and “Toy Story,” as well as original animated movies like “A Bug’s Life.”
The collection will be available to subscribers of Hulu Plus for $20 a month, the company said in a statement.
The original Disney-Pixaro “Pillars of Eternity” movie will also be available for $10 a month.
“Hulu Plus is a great addition to the Disney family,” said Dan Castellaneta, Disney CEO and president of content acquisition and distribution.
“This is an amazing opportunity to share Disney’s storytelling with our audience, and we’re excited to expand the capabilities of this great service with more Disney content.”
The Disney-NBCUniversal pact, which will also see Disney-Fox’s “Marvel’s Agent Carter” and Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man” join Hulu Plus as part of the Disney-Hulu partnership, will also include original animated content from “Toy Stories,” “Mulan,” “Star Wars” and more.
“We are thrilled to partner with Disney to bring audiences more of the original Disney stories, and more Disney-created content to their devices,” Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Alan Horn said in the statement.
“Disney and Hulu are synonymous in storytelling and bringing their audiences the most original content from Walt Disney Studios, Pixar, Marvel, ABC and other Disney properties, making Hulu Plus the ultimate platform for Disney’s films, shows and characters.”
Disney-Disney Studios will continue to produce and distribute movies through Walt Disney Productions in the U.S. and internationally.
Disney-CNBCUniversal also will continue its partnership with Hulu Plus in Europe, Africa and Asia.
Hulu is one of the top-rated streaming platforms for movies and TV shows, with over 2.3 billion subscribers, according to ComScore.
