Free movies on the web are on the rise again.
The online streaming service Netflix says that more than 1.5 million movies and TV shows are now available to stream online for free online.
That’s a 17 percent increase over the same period last year, and Netflix says the figure is only going to increase as more movies hit theaters.
The numbers are not great for movie lovers who might be hesitant to go the traditional route of buying a ticket to a theater to see a movie.
According to Netflix, only 3.7 percent of moviegoers said they have ever purchased a ticket for a movie online.
But the number of moviegoing households has grown from 4.3 million households in 2015 to 7.5 billion households in 2019.
Netflix said that its free online movie service now accounts for about 20 percent of total moviegoing.
Netflix is targeting those who don’t own a movie theater to sign up for the service, because it allows people to rent movies for as little as $5 a month.
Netflix says its movies are also available for purchase on Amazon and other online stores.
Netflix’s movies are available for streaming on nearly every device available to a moviegoer.
